What is a RMT?

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a medical professional in British Columbia with 2200 hours of education. In BC, Massage Therapists are required to continually upgrade their knowledge and skills by taking courses and programs throughout their career. Furthermore, all Registered Massage Therapists are governed by the College of Massage Therapists and are Regulated Health Professionals in British Columbia. Massage therapy in BC has been a regulated health care profession since 1946.

RMTs are trained to assess and treat a variety of neuromuscular problems by manipulating the body’s soft tissue. In addition, RMTs are also trained in the use of a wide variety of techniques that help improve patient outcomes including stretching, strengthening, hydrotherapy, and postural exercises.

First Treatment Expectations

Your first treatment will have 3 distinct stages:

Before your treatment: Please arrive 10-15 minutes earlier to fill out a detailed health history form and any other forms that may be pertinent to your massage treatment.

During your treatment: Your treatment will begin with a detailed questioning period of your health history. Followed by a physical assessment which may include any applicable special orthopedic tests. This information will give our therapists the necessary information to devise a treatment plan to help facilitate you back to optimal health. Following the assessment the therapist will explain the proposed massage treatment to you. If you’re happy with the proposal then the treatment will commence. Should you have any questions or reservations about the treatment protocol feel free to ask your therapist.

During the massage, you may experience discomfort or therapeutic pain. Your therapist will continuously check in with you during the massage to assure that they are not harming you.

After your treatment: Our therapists will conduct a reassessment of your body and provide any additional exercises, stretches, or remedies for you to take home. This will ensure and maximize the treatment benefits to help facilitate you back to optimal health. The receptionist will finish up the billing process and help you book any recurring appointments if needed.
